About the Cause

Gawad Kalinga (GK) (www.gk1world.com), meaning ‘to give care’ in Tagalog, is an organization that provides an alternative solution to the blatant problem of poverty in the Philippines and other parts of the world. While there are other non-government organizations that solely target poverty eradication, GK provides much more than just a house, but a self-sustaining community approach that has components such as education, health care, green and sustainable farming methods, and the tools to provide upward mobility.

With the full support of the Philippine government, GK launched its Vision 2024 platform, a 21-year timeline (2003-2024) aimed at ending homelessness, hunger, and poverty for the millions of indigent families in the Philippines, bringing the country into First World status by 2024. To help make this vision a success, GK has partnered with Stanford University and UCLA’s Graduate School of Public Health, Pfizer, and Shell Corporation, just to name a few. To date, GK is in over 1,200 communities all over the Philippines and in other developing countries such as Indonesia, Cambodia, and Papua New Guinea.  GK is also making strides to further its efforts in the western hemisphere in Brazil and Mexico. We hope you will join us in supporting this cause!
